The Paella Creativity

Because Paella is a dish that is above all about love, friends, family & sharing.

But at the same time it is a vehicle for expression.

And while the purist of Paella tend to focus on the traditional recipes, we believe that the beauty of it is that everyone can put its vision and ideas and create combinations of their own, as colorful and tasty as the originals.

In essentially, there can be as many types of Paellas as chefs cooking one.

And that is the reason that the creativity of Paella is essential, and why it connects to the beauty of modern art.

Paella is like art or any other craft: it is important to know the history and the classics to understand where it come from and its value, but as like in modern art, to break the rules.

Because what’s best about it is that ultimately it is about what one wants to create and make others feel with it.

The Value of Modern Art

How did Modern Art Began

Modern art, as an innovation against the artistic tradition of Western art, represented a new way of understanding the theory and function of art, in which the dominant value of the so-called figurative arts (painting and sculpture) is no longer the imitation of nature or its literal condition.

The invention of photography had turned this hitherto essential artistic function (court painters) into something accessory, if not obsolete.

Instead, the artists began to experiment with new points of view, with new ideas about nature, materials and artistic functions, even going as far as abstraction.

A example of Kandisnky’s abstract paiting, where sensations and emotions triumph over form and message

The Industrial Revolution not only brought the technical innovations that allowed the architecture of iron and glass, but it changed productive and social relations forever, and with them, the position of the artist in front of his client.

As we can read on Wikipedia:

The term is usually associated with art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation. Modern artists experimented with new ways of seeing and with fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art. A tendency away from the narrative, which was characteristic for the traditional arts, toward abstraction is characteristic of much modern art. More recent artistic production is often called contemporary art or postmodern art.

In a less technical language, modern art allowed the subjective side of expression to be the protagonist, rather the technique or the skills.

The value of art turned its attention to the result and the way it makes us feel as the most important protagonist.

And what it is most important of all, it made possible for everyone to become an artist: It took art it out of the hands of a few and put them in the hands of everyone.

How Modern Art connects to Paella

As with traditional Art, the classic recipes of Spanish Paella are already well stablished. Hence, we have two options:

  • We either replicate the traditional recipes
  • Or we invent new ones that become a vehicle for Self Expression.

In any case, we support both!

In Paellita we give you the classical bases of the traditional recipes just in case you want to replicate the most authentic spanish experience, or for them to serve you as the base of your own recipes.

And believe us, you won’t find many Spanish people open to this idea. But we believe that that is how innovation and progress happen.

Our goal is for Paella to stop being a purely Spanish dish to be a truly Universal dish.

And we want to be surprised in the process. The only way to ensure that is by supporting you in creating your unique recipe and hopefully, and share it with our community so we can all try it at home with our guests.

Because that is the way to push forward our traditional dish.

Obviously we will witness some amazing recipes, and some not as amazing, but that may serve as inspiration for others to create their future Paellas.

The Ingredients as Colors in a Pallet

As the great Spanish painters like Picasso or Dalí, we want you to think of the immense and rich opportunities that nature brings us in the form of foods as if they are colors, and the Paella as the empty canvas:

  • The bright and vivid orange of Turmeric
  • The fresh green of zucchini
  • The serenity of the brown of Shitake Mushrooms
  • The oceanic blue of Spirulina
  • The depth of the purpleness of Betroots…

The possibilities are endless!

It may seem crazy right now, but who thought one day that we would be able to fly on aeroplanes? So it is only crazy… until someone creates it.

We want you to think of Paella not as a thing to copy, but as a source of inspiration, for you, and for others.

Just use the hashtag #MiPaellita and we will share your creation with our Paellita lovers!
